PREMIERSHIP JAZZ CONCERT TO HONOUR JAZZ GIANT MESH MAPETLA
Veteran jazz host Mesh Mapetla is poised to be honoured yet again, and this time it is through the performance of a music genre that he himself has popularised over the years as both a presenter and compiler. An n impressive line up of both seasoned and new talent will grace the stages of a top West rand lodge this month, paying tribute to the seasoned jazz host. West rand comes alive on Sunday 26 March, formerly Soweto TV Jazz and R'nB producer and presenter, Terry Mokoena, is hosting the first annual Premiership Jazz Concert at Molobane Estate Lodge in Zuurbekom. The live sounds of jazz will reverberate through the four hectares picnic garden featuring Badimo Jazz Band, Michael Kisto, Tabia, Ma’Soul, Sawubona Music Jam Band and others. The Premiership Jazz Concert is an appreciation of all things jazz, from cool jazz to traditional jazz, modal jazz, free jazz, Latin jazz, soul jazz, jazz fusion, jazz funk, smooth jazz, nu jazz to every other conceivable derivative of the genre, This is an exclusive jazz concert to be dedicated to radio jazz presenters, jazz collectors in South Africa. Veteran jazz presenter Mesh Mapetla, "Bra Mesh” as he is popular known, formerly with Lesedi FM will be the first presenter to be honoured for his contribution in promoting jazz music. Recently he has been in and out the hospital due to prostate cancer but he is feeling much better now after the operation.
Mapetla has a towering standing on the local music scene, and jazz in particular. He has previously been honoured for his dedication the development and appreciation of this genre of music. Regarded as a jazz institution, this particular tribute concert has come at the right time for Bra Mesh as he is recovering from cancer. The Badimo Jazz Band from Hammanskraal lead by Mainline Ngobeni and Michael Kisto originally from Uganda promise to render the best live jazz.
