Dancing in the Dust

"Dancing In The Dust" seamlessly blends the vibrant rhythms of traditional flamenco, kathak, Tswana, Zulu, Khoi San, and other African cultures. This 60-minute theatrical experience transports audiences to a world of music, song, dance, and poetry, leaving them feeling inspired and interconnected with the universal elements of nature.

The Vision of FlamenKhoi
The creators of the original production, Kuele, Pinky !Xu Ramagole, Rosana Maya, and Sipho Paulos Mashiane, had a deep-rooted passion for preserving and sharing their rich heritage. They believed that by fusing these diverse forms, they could create a powerful and authentic expression of their shared ancestry.

A Journey of Collaboration
The journey began in 2015 when the three artists came together to explore the similarities between flamenco and African traditions. They were immediately struck by the common threads of passion, rhythm, storytelling, and the universal purpose of art that runs through all cultures, serving as our one universal language.

In 2021, FlamenKhoi invited composers Micah Myles and Lebogang Lechela to create the new score, further building on the ethos of the company. The range of expression and artistry expanded with the inclusion of singer Nobuhle Ngcolo and Leela-Lind Devar, enriching the production and continuing the legacy of this unique fusion.
